Water Pollution – Industrial Waste Deposition

Dear Friends, this is the 1st post after the welcome note which took long time. I would like to thank all my friends for your support.

So let’s start with the most familiar topic to all “Water Pollution”. Almost everyone would be aware of this terminology; some would have studied from their early school days. So I am not going to anything new, instead just remind you about the present intensity and its adverse effects on our planet. The main aim is to create awareness among us by sowing seeds about the recent problems affecting our planet earth, here specifically about water pollution due to industrial waste water deposition.

There are some chemical industries like Leather, Textile, Pulp & Paper, Oil & Refinery etc., which discharge their effluents without complete treatment into the water bodies nearby. These contain toxic materials either in dissolved or suspended form. The flora and fauna present in the water bodies consume these toxic materials causing to decline in their species. Sometimes they are so affected that they become extinct species. This is because on addition of toxic materials to the existing water bodies disturb the habitat. Only those species which can adapt itself to the new habitat can survive others die. There are many toxic chemicals discharged into water bodies are soluble in water like phenol, dyes etc. and some are insoluble like oil which will not allow sunlight to pass through it. So the aquatic life under the oil region will not be able to get sunlight for their growth, which will disturb the aquatic life cycle.

The aquatic life consumes the Carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere, so disturbance in created in aquatic life cycle will impact the Carbon cycle. As the water gets polluted it loses its capacity to absorb carbon dioxide, instead the death of aquatic life can release Carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, thereby increasing the amount of Carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This increasing amount of Carbon dioxide will cause global warming which in turn increase the temperature. Presently the temperature has increased by 5-6% compared to previous years.

So what will happen if the temperature increases by 5-6%? It’s very simple our living habitat will change, like the climate, season, also will help in causing of natural calamities like storm, hurricane, floods, droughts etc. So if you see we have just polluted water, but its undergoing various chain of reactions to have an amplified effect on us.

So there’s a saying “It’s Never Late” even we put in our effort we can save our planet and live peacefully. Everything is in our hands. So let’s all come together to save our planet.
